EGR repairs

An EGR warning, airflow fault or poor running can have several causes. We assess the exhaust gas recirculation system and related components before deciding whether cleaning or repair is appropriate.

Signs worth investigating

A warning light, rough running, hesitation or reduced power may be connected with EGR operation, but a code alone does not prove the valve is faulty. Tell us when the problem occurs and whether previous work changed the symptoms.

  • EGR or airflow-related fault codes
  • Uneven running or hesitation
  • Reduced power or a recurring engine warning
  • A fault that returned after a valve or sensor was replaced

How we investigate

We consider fault codes, relevant live data and the vehicle history. Depending on the system, checks may include commanded valve operation and feedback, wiring, connections or vacuum controls, intake leaks and restrictions.

Airflow readings need to be considered alongside EGR operation and the rest of the intake system. A sensor code does not automatically mean that sensor needs replacing.

Cleaning and repair options

Where deposits are the cause and a component is suitable, cleaning the valve, cooler or associated pipework may be an option. Cleaning will not repair a damaged mechanism, failed actuator, wiring fault or leak.

We discuss access, dismantling, parts and whether repair or replacement is appropriate after assessment. We provide an estimate for any further testing and work before proceeding.

What to bring

Bring the registration, engine, mileage and any scan reports. Include details of earlier EGR, intake or DPF work, replaced parts and software changes.

For an intermittent fault, note the temperature, speed and driving conditions when it appears. The free initial supported engine-system scan and assessment is a starting point for engine or gearbox problems.

Discuss your car

Tell us what you need and we’ll discuss suitability and the next step.

Bring your own parts. We'll fit them. Buy suitable parts yourself and pay the supplier directly. You keep any saving on the parts price; we provide a separate estimate for fitting.
